Vehicle emission standards are established in Malaysia by the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in accordance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the relevant regulations. It is not mandatory in Malaysia for vehicles to be fitted with catalytic converters.
