When you understand how the numbers in a member’s Feedback Profile are calculated, it’s easier to evaluate a member’s reputation. Here's more information about Feedback Scores:
Overview
The Feedback Score is one of the most important pieces of a Feedback Profile. It’s the number in parentheses next to a member’s user ID, and is also located at the top of the Feedback Profile. Next to the Feedback Score, you may see a star. Feedback stars are awarded to eBay members for achieving 10 or more Feedback points.
A positive rating increases the Feedback Score by one point
A neutral rating leaves the Feedback Score the same
A negative rating decreases the Feedback Score by one point
For each transaction, buyers and sellers can choose to rate each other by leaving Feedback. These ratings are used to determine Feedback Scores.
Feedback from buyers can consist of a positive, negative or neutral rating, and a short comment.
Feedback from sellers can consist of a positive rating and a short comment.
About Feedback stars
A Feedback Score of at least 10 earns a yellow star (
). The more positive ratings you receive, the higher your Feedback Score. As your Feedback Score increases, your star will change color accordingly, all the way to a red shooting star (
) for a score above 100,000!

Buying multiple items
If you buy multiple items from the same seller, you should leave Feedback for each sale. However, we’ll calculate the seller’s Feedback Score differently depending on whether the sales occurred in the same week, as described in the following table. For Feedback purposes, we define a week as Monday through Sunday, Pacific Time.
If the sales occurred in different weeks |
Each rating can affect the seller’s Feedback Score by one point. A positive rating raises the member’s Feedback Profile by one point and a negative rating lowers it by one point. |
If the sales occurred in the same week |
We’ll raise or lower k Score by a totalthe seller’s Feedbac of one point, based on the total number of positives and negatives left by the buyer.
If the seller receives more negatives than positives from the same buyer in the same week, the seller's Feedback Score is lowered by one point. If the seller receives more positives than negatives from the same buyer in the same week, the seller's Feedback Score is raised by one point. If a seller receives the same number of negatives and positives from the same buyer in the same week, the seller's Feedback score does not change.

Other Feedback ratings
In addition to the Feedback Score, you’ll see other numbers on the Feedback Profile page. Here’s what they mean:
What it is |
What it means |
Positive Feedback |
The percentage of positive ratings left by members in the last 12 months. This is calculated by dividing the number of positive ratings and the total number of positive and negative ratings.
Example: In the last 12 months, a member got 1000 positive, 3 neutral and 4 negative ratings. The member's Positive Feedback Percentage is calculated as follows:
1000 : (1000 + 4) = 0.996 which represents 99.6% |
Recent Feedback Ratings |
The total number of positive, neutral, and negative Feedback ratings the member has received in the last 1, 6, and 12 months. |
Detailed Seller Ratings |
Detailed seller ratings provide more details about this member’s performance as a seller. Five stars is the highest rating, and one star is the lowest. These ratings do not count toward the overall Feedback Score and they are anonymous. That means that sellers can't trace detailed seller ratings back to the buyer who left them. Detailed seller ratings from te same buyer are counted in the same way as Feedback - only one every week is included in the seller's score. |
Bid retractions |
The number of times the member has retracted a bid in the last 12 months. |
